DEKHO BANGLA > Bankura – Jhilimili – Joyrambati – Kamarpukur
Famous for its sculptures, Terracotta temples, the kingdom of Mallarajas, birthplace of Jamini Ray and Ramkinkar Beij, Bankura showcases many historical sites.
Day 1 : Starting from Kolkata early morning , having breakfast at Shaktigarh, we will reach Garbeta via Kharagpur. Here we will see one of the famous tourist spot of Bengal, Gangani, which also known as the Grand Canyon of Bengal. Travelling through the forest of Cashewnuts and walking on red soil we will watch the Shilabati river cut throug the Laterite rocks sculpting them into amazing shapes. At rays of setting sun falls on these rocks to give them a fiery red colour which makes place look like the canyon on fire. After watching the sunset we will reach Bankura. Dinner and overnight stay at Bankura.
Day 2 : After breakfast we will visit Joyrambati and Kamarpukur. Situated in Bishnpur Sub-division of Bankura district, Joyrambati is a small village famous for being the birthplace of Maa Sarada Devi. She was born on 22 December 1853 and was married to Shri Shri Ramkrishna Paramhangshadeb in 1859 at the of 5years. At present her residence has been undertaken by Ramkrishna Mission, where a temple has been constructed in her memory. Visit the Matrimandir, old and new residence of Maa Sarada, Punnyipukur. Also visit Singhabahini temple where Singhabahini, the other form of Maa Durga is worshipped alongwith Mahamaya Chandi and Maa Manasaa.
Situated 3km from Joyrambati, also known as Sukhlalganj in the past, Kamarpukur is the birthplace of Shri Ramkrishna who was born here on 18February 1836. Visit the Ramkrishna Math, the residence of Shri Ramkrishna.
Also visit Raghubir Temple, Amravrikshya Yogi Shiv temple, Haldar Pukur, Lakshmijala, Ramkrishna Pathshala, Chandi Mandap, Lahas’ Residence, Parbatinath Temple, Damodar/Vishnu Temple, Painbari, Shantinath Shib Mandir, Gopishwar Temple, Dhanimata Temple, Bhuti Khal Crematorium and othe sight seeing spots. Enjoy the famous sweet of Kamarpukur – ‘Sada Bonde’ and return to Bankura.
Day 3 : After breakfast we will start for Jhilimili, situated 95kms away at the convergence of Bankura, Purulia and Paschim Medinipur District. Enclosed within Krishnachura, Banyan, Gooseberry, Kusum, Saal, Shegun forest and hillocks, Jhilimili was once ruled by the Mallarajas. Surrounded by forests, hills, narrow rivers and dams, it was a hiding place of dacoits in the past. Visit the remains of the Garh of the Mallarajas, Joypur forest, Gokulchand Temple and also the temples of Kalda-Gokulnagar region. Night stay at Jhilimili.
Day 4 : After breakfast we will reach Chhandar, the place of the famous poets of the Mallrajas’ kingdom. The birthplace of Jamini ray and Ramkinkar Beij, whose works have been showcased here in local museums and Kshirodprasad Bidyabinod Manch.
After lunch we will head towards Kolkata.
